For the 2nd time this season Boxley faced Cliffe Woods with the classy Peter Davis in their line up. Things were going to plan when Davis won the first game of the evening against Gary Hentschel but unfortunately in his next game he hurt his knee when hitting the winning point against Barry Roles and was unable to take on Lyndon Gurr in his 3rd game. With this walkover and the fact that the Boxley trio all beat Andy Larner an upset was looking possible. Peter Mortley fought back with wins against Roles in 5 and Gurr in 4 but he had no answer to the powerful hitting of Hentschel who took the match score to 5-4 in Boxley's favour. It all hinged on the doubles and with Hentschel opting to sit out and Davis unable to play, it was left to Mortley and Larner to battle it out with Gurr/Roles with the Woods'pairing earning a draw and to keep their promotion hopes on track.
