Design contest captures youngsters’ imaginations

Youngsters all over the world have the chance to be inspired by table tennis thanks to a new competition.

The design-a-ball contest has been launched by Aerobic Table Tennis, supported by the ITTF, and has some great prizes up for grabs.

Steve Rowe, the man behind Aerobic Table Tennis, says the inspiration was provided by his granddaughter Hollie, who decided it would be fun to paint patterns on table tennis balls.

Steve said:

I am so excited about this competition. Kids are very creative and I can’t wait to see the many different designs we will receive from around the world.

It gives us a good opportunity to get some newcomers involved in our sport. I do believe that once the kids have designed a ball, most certainly they will want to try to play a game of table tennis.

The competition is also a great way for clubs to make a link with schools, first talk about the competition and then talk about delivering table tennis in the school.

We are expecting thousands of entries from all over the world. It’s very exciting.

Supported by Butterfly, who are providing prizes including playing equipment, clothing and accessories, the competition has been endorsed by a series of top players in this video:

There are three categories: under-16, under-11 and under-seven and the closing date for submissions is Saturday September 30, 2017.
